Windows

all different kinds

glass, time, mindsets, opportunities, threats

So many kinds

they open, they close, they slide, they creak,

they can be clean

they can be dirty

they let us see through

or

they block our view

they allow us to see things we can't always see

But, today, windows are a metaphor...

for time

For all of us, we are living in windows

for some, those windows are open and stay open

for others, the windows have a mind of their own

and we can't control how long they are open for

For me, windows open and close

But its for all of us, not just cancer people

But, I live in windows.

chunks of time

time segments that are defined

not by the wood or metal framing

but by time

windows that can open and close immediately

and windows that stay open longer

I yearn for open windows

we can sell a house

I can jump from a plane

I can travel

I can see the people I care about

I have had windows that have started closed

no space

I have had windows that have been open for 3 months,

and then have closed again

and then been open for 3 months.

sometimes even 6

Windows are a part of all of our lives,

but sometimes I feel like windows define me

my life

what I can do

when and how I can do it

I had good scans this week

window open for 3 months

In 3 months, how long will the window stay open?

who knows

So I maximize when the window is open

I breathe the air

I experience the world

I feel the things I want to feel

and I do the things I want to do

Because the window is open for me.

I never really thought about windows before

but now I think about them every day

That finite time where you can breath the fresh air

experience nature

and feel yourself

and be what you want to be.

Here's to hoping that all of our windows stay open

and only close when we want them to.

They show us the dark, the light

and everything in between
