Friends

not always easy

but should it be hard?

What is a friend?

they are there when you need them

they drop everything

they run

they don't ask

there is no me in friend

Do friends leave you?

i guess sometimes

What should we expect from a friend?

I expect them to love me like I love them

to be there for me as i am for them

to not disappear when things get tough

Are acquaintances friends?

no, they are acquaintances (how do you spell that anyway? (and no, Romy, don't say T-H-A-T!))

you wave to them in the hallway

you say how was your weekend without really caring

you aren't invested

you have little history

the relationship ultimately resolves to a head nod and a fake smile

But a friend?

you care how there weekend was

"how are you?" is not a greeting, it's a request for information

you see more than the two of you

you see the connections

from when things began

a friend never gets a head nod

This weekend I jumped out of a plane with one of my oldest and closest friends and his family

i hung out with his amazing wife

i hung out with his amazing daughters

i saw his sister who I hadn't seen in 30 years

i saw his mom who I hadn't seen in 30 years

i saw his friends who I hadn't seen in guess how many years?

yup, 30

It made me realize.

while a friend is a friend

a friend also brings you into their circle

and they never leave

Maybe thats what they mean by the circle of life?

I am thankful for my friends, they care.

the ones who didn't, aren't friends anymore

but the ones who did and do,

are the ones I invest in.

Because, friends invest in each other.

I'm a lucky guy.
