The crowd starts streaming into the arena
Look, there's happy there's sad
theres frustrated, and there's mad
there's jealousy, and fulfillment
there's envy and surprise
and excited and shy
and worried and confused.
So many groups streaming into the arena
They get their food,
take off their coats,
and get comfortable,
expecting a long, drawn out battle.
Just a boxing ring in the middle of it all.
The lights come down,
there's a hush; an audible lowering of volume
A lone person in a black tuxedo climbs into the ring,
and grabs the mic.
"Ladies and gentleman and feelings of all ages.
Welcome to the BurtDome: The World's Most Famous Introspection Arena.
Tonight, we will be featuring an epic bout
not between two people
but an inner struggle, between two feelings.
Two constructs
In this corner, feeling like they can never be enough, Burt.
And, in this corner, realizing that they might have hit the enough line this week
and ARE enough,
also Burt.
Let's get ready to rummmmmmmble!"
The two constructs come to the center
they agree to fight cleanly
because there is a bigger picture to focus on
and the bell rings.
The arena plays Potvin Sucks on the organ (for you Rangers fans).
Never Enough lands the first punch.
You can do more!
You aren't doing enough!
The more you do the better you feel and the more you matter!
The weight of the world is on your shoulders!
Stop It Already, after taking the first few blows,
finds his confidence.
He starts ducking and weaving, diving and dodging (because if you can dodge a wrench, you can dodge a ball - PO).
Avoiding the blows,
fighting the urge to give in to Never Enough.
But, then it's time to make a comeback.
Stop It Already starts punching back
You ARE enough!
You do more than you should be doing!
More doesn't equal better
You need to take of yourself
God Dammit, you DO MATTER!
Never Enough, not expecting such a fierce onslaught,
since it's been winning for a long time,
falls to one knee.
and throws in the towel. Stunned.
The fight is over.
The bout was quick
but effective.
The balance between feeling fulfilled,
and not overdoing it
and not hurting myself,
has come to a close.
This is a bout,
where the winner doesn't exist.
In the ring tonight was but a small battle
The fight won't ever stop
but, after tonight,
it might come more into focus.

Oh, yes! I tale I relate to too... if not the metaphorical environment. Life's balance, that delicate dance of duck, dodge, dip, dive and dodge, makes the defensive fighter long for more accurate and effective artillery 'gainst the oncoming foe. Grim Reaper's gonna win & best we can do is all that can be done!
Keep fighting the good party! (and at our age, party hardly!) heh heh
