7/26 Updates

Writer's picture: Burt RosenBurt Rosen

Long time no update, so it's time. Pair that with the fact that I'm sitting at the auto dealer waiting for my car and it's the perfect time to let people know what's going on.

I am almost 6 weeks since Liver surgery so let's start there:

  • Overall, I am healing very well. Although I really wouldn't choose this as my first choice, my superpower seems to be healing from surgery (and compartmentalization, of course!)

  • I have no pain anymore. A little soreness here and there but nothing major. The soreness seems to be related to sitting still for a long time and then getting up, or a lot of activity

  • The incision, while huge (think peace sign or Mercedez Benz logo) is healing well. It itches on occasion and can be slightly uncomfortable at times, but really isn't a big deal and I am recovering from it

  • I still have some weakness on occasion where I feel like I can't do much, and some fatigue where I feel like I need a nap right away. I am good now at napping or taking it easy if I need to. Also improving, but still there

So for the liver surgery, that's the update. I am doing much better, improving, but it takes a while and I am learning to be more patient with my expectations of myself.

Other updates:

  • I am going back on my monthly shots, with the next one scheduled for 7/31 (I have been on Octreotide but my Oncologist is trying to switch me to Lanreotide. We will see what happens with Insurance)

  • My next CT scan is scheduled for 9/25. It's kind of a big one. My surgeon wants me to have the next part of my surgery to remove the tumor on my pancreas and my spleen, but I am hoping I don't have to have surgery again soon. It's been a lot and has put a lot of stress on my body (and mind). My Oncologist has agreed with a "let's start the shots, do a scan in a few months, and then make a plan" plan. So, thats why 9/25 matters. I will see if the shots are keeping me stable and I have an appointment with my oncologist to review the results.

  • I am starting acupuncture again next week which I am very excited about!

  • I have started back at Yoga and it is helping and making me feel so good!

  • I am starting up my volunteer efforts again which is also helping my mental state. I am helping out two lyme disease orgs as well as the others I am involved in.

Thanks for reading!

So glad you're healing, but this kind of surgery is no small thing. Good that you are being kind to yourself and being holistic about it.

Fingers crossed for good response!

Very glad you are healing well with interesting incision art on your person.

Good, too that you are developing healthy fitness habits like not sitting for too long, which creates forward lean, mushy core, and unhappy spines. But I would say that, wouldn't I.

I‘m sitting in the kitchen, sipping matcha tea, wondering how you‘re doing, then I see your blog. Perfect timing, Burt🧡Your surgery recovery sounds excellent! I’m curious what your next move will be after Sept 25 scan. It’s great you’re volunteering again with Lyme groups. You have so much expertise and valuable experience to share with others. I’m very happy you’re doing so well😊😊😊
